Behind the Scenes at the IOM Review of Drug Safety
Here’s a timely report from RPM on the state of current discussions at the IOM, which is pondering the U.S. drug safety system in its entirety. As you’ll read, many issues are on the table, the scariest of which is the proposal to de-link drug efficacy and safety reviews. That’s a bit more serious than separating chocolate from peanut butter and is probably scary enough that it won’t last to become a final recommendation, but you never know. You also never know how Congress will react to an IOM report. In any case, this is worth a read even though there’s little most people in or connected with industry can do to influence the IOM process. It’s a watch-and-wait for most of us.
